Contributor terms

The short version: what you write stays yours, we publish it with your name on it, and you earn your badge for contributing — whatever you have to say.

Who runs this

sailingholidays.blog is run by SAILORSBREEZE LTD, a company registered in the United Kingdom, operating from Gouvia marina, 49100, Corfu, Greece. We are a community site, not a charter operator, and the logbook is open to anyone who has sailed the Ionian, whichever fleet they chartered from.

Your work stays yours

You keep the copyright in everything you write and every photograph you upload. We do not take ownership of it, and you remain free to publish the same material anywhere else you like.

By submitting a story you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish it on this site with your display name and badge, to quote short extracts with attribution and a link when we promote the site, and to store and back it up as part of running the site. That licence is limited to those things. It does not let us use your story or your photographs in an advertisement for charter bookings — if we ever want that, we will ask you separately.

What you are confirming when you submit

  • The words are yours and the photographs are yours to share.
  • Anyone clearly identifiable in a photograph is happy for it to be published. This matters most for photographs of children.
  • What you have written is an honest account of your own experience.
  • It does not name or target a private individual, and it is not abusive.

Moderation

Every story is read by a person before it appears. We will decline or remove a submission only on grounds we can state plainly: it is not about sailing in this region, it names or targets a private individual, it is abusive, it is commercial spam, or it is plainly fabricated. If we decline something you have written, we will tell you why and you can revise it.

A critical story is not grounds for refusal. If the wind was wrong, the heads blocked or the week disappointed you, write it. A site of nothing but praise is advertising, and nobody believes advertising.

Badges and rewards

Contributing earns points, and points carry you up four tiers: Aboard, Page, Chapter and Volume. Higher tiers unlock things like early word on peak weeks, kit, and at the top a day sail, a berth night or a credit against a charter.

Points are earned for contributing, whatever you have to say. A critical story earns exactly what a glowing one does. We do not offer, and will not offer, any reward conditional on writing something positive. Contributors earn rewards, and we say so here and on the badges page so that every reader knows it.

Points have no cash value and cannot be transferred or exchanged for money. We may cap or reverse points awarded in error or obtained by gaming the system, and we will tell you if we do.

Leaving

You can close your account at any time. When you do, we delete your account, your profile and your points record. For stories you have already published you choose what happens: we withdraw them, or we keep them with the byline changed to “a former member”. Tell us which you want and we will do it.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that affects what you have already published, we will tell members by email before the change takes effect.
